C20 Guided Walk: An Architectural Guide to Trenčín

The C20 guided walk will take us through selected examples of 20th-century architecture in the city of Trenčín. The walk is inspired by the book of the same name, published last year, which offers a practical overview of the architectural development that transformed Trenčín from a small town into today’s regional center of the Central Považie.

We will follow in the footsteps of architectural evolution—from the clean lines of interwar functionalism to the monumental works of late modernism.

Martin Zaiček, an architect and researcher, focuses on the exploration and promotion of Slovakia’s 20th-century architectural heritage. He is a member of DOCOMOMO and the art collective Opustená (re)kreácia. His long-term research centers on the development of Slovak spa architecture between 1948 and 1989. He is the co-author of Off Season, a book dedicated to the Machnáč Sanatorium in Trenčianske Teplice, and the author of the C20 architectural guide series.

Trenčín 2026 is financially supported by the City of Trenčín, the Trenčín Self-Governing Region, and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. The project is partnered by the European Union.

Please note that photos and video recordings will be made during the event and may be published afterward.
