Invitation into a world of movement and thought
What is it like to see the world through someone else’s eyes? And what if that perspective isn’t words, but a body in motion? Custom View is a unique dance solo by choreographer and performer Tomáš Danielis, which, in collaboration with Marek Godovič, invites the audience on a contemplative journey — through the decisions that shape our lives, beyond cultural boundaries, and beneath the surface of everyday reality.
Tomáš Danielis, Marek Godovič / Radical Empathy: CUSTOM VIEW
Custom View is an assisted solo for dancer and choreographer Tomáš Danielis. It is a contemplation of Danielis’s life as an artist active in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Russia, Croatia, and Slovakia.
His life and career serve as a pretext for a dance essay embedded in the torso of an unrealized performance. A discourse on interpretations of reality, questions of freedom, perceptions of relationships, and even basic human behavior in (not so) different cultures… Based on Danielis’s extensive career and Godovič’s live dramaturgy, they present a blend of various dance languages underscored by autobiography and commentary. By questioning their validity — and even Danielis himself — the work poetically explores the society we all live in.
“The performance Custom View is a sincere confession of a mature dancer and choreographer Tomáš Danielis, who has been working for more than twenty years in many artistic and cultural environments. This gives him the mandate to compare them, but not through a detached listing of pros and cons. Through a balanced presence of text and movement, Danielis offers us a look into the intimate space of his own creation and life — sometimes indulgent, sometimes dramatically precise and ironic. He contextualizes the profession of an artist in our society, opening many essential questions concerning the meaning and necessity of art itself.”
