DIY Transmitters for Ecological Radio with Soundcamp Cooperative (Workshop)

We invite you to a sound workshop from the úúú series as part of Trenčín 2026. You will get acquainted with the practice of building so-called streamboxes – small, portable DIY transmitters useful for transmitting environmental sounds for artistic, scientific, or activist purposes.

The workshop will introduce you to the practice of building streamboxes – small, portable DIY transmitters based on Raspberry Pi and DIY microphones designed to transmit sounds to the Locus Sonus sound map in Aix-Marseille (FR) (https://locusonus.org/soundmap/). You will learn how to use streamboxes in artistic, scientific, and activist projects, including the radio broadcast REVEIL – a 24-hour live stream broadcast worldwide at sunrise on International Dawn Chorus Day. The workshop will show how to assemble a streambox from a kit or from scratch, how to install it, how to monitor its operation, and how to use it directly in the field. You will also become part of live broadcasts for radio streaming from the surroundings of Vinyl-LAB in Trenčín, within the main program of the úúú event at Vinyl-LAB Records and Letecké opravovne Trenčín.

No previous experience with internet radio, microphones, or broadcasting is required to participate in the workshop.

Združenie ooo was founded in spring 2020 out of a need to create a dedicated space for exploring the world through sound art, contemporary music, and intermedia art. Founding members are musician, educator, and intermedia artist Fero Király and dramaturge, cultural manager, and performer Eva Vozárová. The association’s artistic and curatorial interest focuses on projects that dive into complex relationships between human and non-human beings, covering areas such as acoustic ecology, deep listening, environmental and social topics, and disciplines like anthropology, philosophy, mathematics, and other fields of knowledge. The association prefers considerate artistic interventions. // www.zdruzenie.ooo

The úúú series is a space for cultivating (not only) sonic sensitivity in the time of the sixth mass extinction of species. It presents sound performances, interventions, installations, workshops, lectures, and discussions inviting people to listen to the Loud New World. It encourages quieting down, loving sonic nuances, and seeking new ways out of today’s crises. We are interested in everything from the roar of a highway overpass, to the digging of a mole in the ground, echoes of abandoned factory halls, to the wind hitting the castle rock in Trenčín.

The úúú series is an activity of the Within the Sound project, which is part of Trenčín 2026. Trenčín 2026 is financially supported by the City of Trenčín, the Trenčín Self-Governing Region, and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. The partner is the European Union.

GDPR: Photo and video recordings will be made at the event, which will later be published.
