How can two parking spaces be creatively utilized? You’ll find out thanks to the first installation of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 project, created for our city by a Norwegian architect.
A parklet is a temporary architectural installation on a parking space that provides a place for people to spend time. It shows us how a parking space could be used differently if it weren’t occupied by cars.
The first parklet in Trenčín was designed by the Norwegian architectural studio Rintala – Eggertsson, which specializes in wooden structures. Its form may remind you of a Roman temple or a dense forest of trees. Its creator, architect Sami Rintala, drew inspiration from the heritage of Trenčín, its Roman legacy, and the beautiful nature surrounding the city. The construction of the parklet will take place at its installation site, in front of the M. A. Bazovský Gallery on Palackého Street.
The final form of the parklet will be revealed as part of the Korzo Palackého event program at 10:00. Following the unveiling, the author of the parklet, Sami Rintala, will have a conversation with Deputy Mayor Patrik Žák about architecture in our city at the Institute of Participation Trenčín booth. The discussion will be in English. The parklet will remain in place throughout the summer.
