Dozens of curatorial and artistic proposals from Slovakia and abroad were submitted to the open call for exhibition projects at the FOR MAAT Gallery. An expert jury selected projects that present strong artistic voices, engage with pressing social issues, and respond thoughtfully to the gallery’s space.
Two projects have been selected for the upcoming exhibition programme. While each approaches contemporary life from a different perspective, both share a common interest in people, their relationships, and the world we live in today.

Conditions of Coexistence

What does it mean to live together in a world facing ecological and social crises? Conditions of Coexistence invites visitors to reflect on the ways we are interconnected with one another, with nature, and with the environments we collectively create. It suggests that interdependence is not a weakness, but rather a space for solidarity, care, and new forms of coexistence.
Through painting, objects, textiles, video, and a scenographically conceived exhibition environment, the project creates a space that encourages slower observation and the discovery of unexpected connections. It explores ecological responsibility, the materials that surround us, and the relationships between the human body, public space, and the more-than-human world. Visitors are invited to experience art as a space for dialogue, empathy, and new perspectives on living together.

Live, Laugh, Cry

Live, Laugh, Cry explores the emotional landscape of a generation growing up under constant pressure to perform, succeed, and continually improve itself. In a world of endless scrolling, algorithms, and social media—where we are expected to become ever more productive, attractive, and happy—the exhibition raises questions about burnout, identity, relationships, and the feeling of never being enough.
Karolína Auzká and Julie Drahovzalová combine humour, irony, internet aesthetics, and personal experience to create an exhibition in which many visitors may recognise themselves. Despite addressing serious themes, the exhibition is far from hopeless. Instead, it offers a thoughtful space for pause, reflection, and even a smile, reminding us that understanding, solidarity, and beauty can still be found amid the chaos of contemporary life.
Although the two exhibitions offer different perspectives on the present, both share a commitment to addressing important issues with sensitivity, clarity, and through the language of contemporary art. Together, they invite visitors not only to discover new artistic approaches, but also to reflect on how we live, what connects us, and the future we want to build together.
