A livecoding workshop kicks off in May at the Culture and Creativity Centre Hviezda
The European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 continues its mission to foster creativity and youth arts. As part of the educational programme New Generation of Creative Leaders, it invites you to a unique workshop A New Kind of Beauty: Collective Music-Making in the Age of Algorithms, which will take place on 14 May from 14:00 to 20:00 at the Culture and Creativity Centre Hviezda. Participants will get to experience what music created through code sounds like – under the guidance of renowned artist Fero Király.
Creativity in the digital world
Livecoding is a form of music creation that pushes the boundaries of classical interpretation. Through algorithms and code, music is created in real time, with the process itself becoming part of the artistic experience. The workshop with Fero Király, an experienced performer and educator in sound art, offers young people an introduction to this innovative form of expression through the platform Estuary – an open tool for collaborative livecoding.
“Music not created on a guitar, but through code? That’s exactly what participants will get to try. The workshop isn’t just about technique, it’s about discovering the joy of creating and sharing,” says instructor Fero Király, who teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.
Who can apply?
The workshop is intended for young people aged 16–20 who are interested in music, technology and new forms of creative thinking. No prior experience is needed – just a personal laptop, headphones, and a curiosity to explore.
Workshop capacity is limited. Participation is free, but registration through the sign-up form is required. The form will close once the capacity is full.
Education as part of Trenčín 2026
The Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture project is not just about cultural events; it is also actively building a platform for education and the professional growth of the younger generation. The New Generation of Creative Leaders programme is focused on connecting art, technology, and community.
“With this workshop, we want to show that the future of art is interactive, open, and accessible to everyone. It’s also proof that the Trenčín 2026 project brings values that will last beyond the title year,” says Mária Klačková from the Trenčín 2026 team.
Trenčín 2026 is financially supported by the City of Trenčín, the Trenčín Self-Governing Region, and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. The European Union is a project partner.
