Do you know what a biopatina is? What is its significance for us, for architecture, and for the urban environment?
Discover the microscopic environments and biotopes of the city together with artist and researcher Adam Hudec and architect Natália Štundová. Together, they form the Dusts Institute and focus on researching the surfaces of urban space and environment.
What colors can biopatinas have? Biopatinas consist of a variety of algae, bacteria, and fungi, each of which can produce a specific color. We highlight where naturally occurring stains appear, what they are, where they come from, and what their significance, function, and potential are. What makes a façade visually unattractive? What should architectural surfaces look like, and why?
During the workshop, participants will explore biopatinas on buildings in the historic center of Trenčín and its surroundings, learn how to identify them, and understand their potential and properties through which they co-create urban space.
