At first glance, this serene painting, created for the courtyard of the County House using the traditional fresco technique, reflects on increasing drought and the importance of water in the landscape. Its central motifs are a prehistoric clay vessel that holds water and cypress trees capable of taking root even in dry and difficult conditions. The calm Mediterranean atmosphere thus conceals a sense of tension. Water becomes a fundamental condition for life, while the landscape itself can be understood as a vessel that must be able to retain it. The ecological dimension of the work is reinforced by the fresco technique itself, which relies on materials used for centuries – lime plaster, natural pigments and water.

Comunite Fresca is a Czech artist collective formed by Dana Balážová, Markéta Filipová and Marie Štindlová. The artists met at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology and have since worked together to revive the traditional fresco technique within contemporary art. They create their works directly on site, responding to the specific space and its architecture. In 2019, they were finalists for the Jindřich Chalupecký Award.
