Beckov Castle has become the home of a historic grand piano. Positioned on the castle’s highest terrace, the instrument is transformed from a piano into a sound object. Dozens of metres of stretched strings connect it to the castle walls.
As Beckov Castle is one of the windiest places in the region, the wind sets the strings into motion. At the same time, small motors transmit deconstructed piano recordings by composers Henry Cowell and Johann Nepomuk Hummel into the instrument. The result is a spontaneous acoustic composition in which piano music intertwines with atmospheric harmonies, creating an ever-changing dialogue between instrument, architecture, and the natural environment.
