GENERATIONS TOGETHER: Workshop “Lifelines”

Together with the artistic duo Cara Davies (UK) and Mads Floor Andersen (DK) we will be exploring the city and its connections to our lives through the palm of our own hand and the lines on it. By creating an imprint of our palms, we will create our own “city map” and perceive the city and our lives in it literally “at our fingertips.” More information and registration at www.generationstogether.eu

“Walking is another layer to the surface of the earth”
– Richard Long (British artist)

How would your personal map of Trenčín look like?

We all make our tracks in the city. We walk the streets, which form our everyday journeys, memories and experiences. Trenčín too is being created by the stories of people who weave their paths through it – today as well as in the past.

You are invited to a weekend workshop led by experienced artistic duo Cara Davies (UK) and Mads Floor Andersen (DK). Together, we will be exploring the city and its connections to our lives through the palm of our own hand and the lines on it.

By creating an imprint of your palms, you will create your own map of the city of Trenčín. The aim of the workshop is to enable people to experience the city through a completely authentic personal experience, to perceive the connection between the city and their lives in it literally “at their fingertips.” The prints, walks through the city, and discoveries will be used to create works of art.

We will start by a simple gesture – a handshake. And step-by-step, we will make our own paths through the city – through walks, drawing, writing, dialogues as well as working with our body and memories.

During the workshop, we will focus at:

  • discovering the memories of the city,
  • looking at Trenčín through the eyes of variety of people,
  • consider how different abilities and age influence the way we move in the city and what we observe

The workshop is open to all from 10 to 99+ years, regardless of prior artistic experience. There will be a Slovak-English translator.

We encourage you to participate in the workshop in a pair or a small group – but it is not required.  Ideally, different generations would meet. So come with a friend, partner, relative, colleague or neighbour, or your child or grandchild (at least 10 years old). Children between 10 and 15 years old are welcome as active participants, as long as they are accompanied by an adult participant (parent or custodian).

Practical information:

  • duration: 2 days (both days from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., including lunch break)
  • free entrance
  • capacity: max. 20 people

The spots are limited, make sure you apply as soon as possible via this form.

The “Lifelines” workshop is a part of the Generations Together project, which cultivates intergenerational dialogue and understanding among the different age groups in Trenčín by various art forms. It is curated by Dominika Belanská, Rokko Juhász, Viktor Fuček a Mads Floor Andersen as a part of Trenčín 2026.

Looking forward to meeting you!
