The exhibition Púťová atrakcia is not merely a title or a metaphor framing the works of both authors. It is an authentic and singular project created specifically for this space and moment in time – a literal attraction.
The notion of a púť naturally carries a dual, historically layered meaning. On one hand, it refers to a religious tradition – a journey toward a sacred place that has accompanied humanity throughout history. On the other hand, in everyday speech it evokes a fairground attraction, a travelling visual spectacle of carousels and lights. What originally held a spiritual purpose has, over the centuries, often transformed into an empty show, a superficial backdrop.
Barényi and Hovanec transform this tension into a creative principle. The púť can be seen as a metaphor for their own artistic process – a journey that has shaped them and is naturally inscribed in their work. Their “fairground attraction” becomes an image of a shared reality.
