COOKING SECTIONS: Lecture performance

In their performance lecture titled Wallowland, 2026, the British duo will present a sonic journey across the disappearance of postindustrial wetlands in northern Istanbul traces how water buffalo once moved between floodplains and forests, dunes and former mining pits, now

all repurposed for logistics, airports, highways, and speculative real estate. Drawing on long-term fieldwork with herders, this performative lecture follows wallows as more-than-human infrastructures shaped by buffalo–herder kin. As these wetlands between the Black and Marmara Seas are increasingly drained by development, herding and wallowing practices are displaced, and with them, unique forms of knowledge, care, and collective inhabitation. These transformations connect to wider hydrological systems, tracing how sediment flows, extraction, and agricultural regimes reshape distant but entangled landscapes. Moving between sound and image, Wallowland asks how to read what remains when wetlands withdraw, and what kinds of alliances might still be formed when we wallow together in the mud.

Cooking Sections investigates the systems that shape the world through food, tracing the spatial, ecological, and political legacies of extractivism.
