She writes in both Finnish and Slovak and translates her own books into Slovak. Writer Alexandra Salmela is coming to Trenčín for a literary evening at Coffee Sheep.
Born in Bratislava, she has lived in Tampere, Finland, since 2006. Her debut novel, 27 eli kuolema tekee taiteilijan (27, or Death Makes an Artist), won the Helsingin Sanomat Literary Prize for the best Finnish debut of the year and was nominated for the Finlandia Prize. In 2025, she received the Anasoft litera award for her episodic prose work 56, či? (56, Right?). She also writes for children, including Žirafia mama a iné príšery (Giraffe Mum and Other Monsters) and Fantazmagorický kamarát (The Phantasmagorical Friend).
