The Modernism Revisited conference reflects on modernist heritage in the context of contemporary challenges through three thematic strands: Typology, Topography, and Strategy. Its aim is to explore modernism not only as a historical phenomenon, but also as an active source of knowledge for contemporary architecture, urbanism, landscape, and cultural policy.
Participation in the conference is free of charge and open to professionals, researchers, students, and anyone with a strong interest in the field. The conference is conceived as an academic and professional event, and contributions presented within its programme are considered academic outputs. The event is organised with the expert support of DOCOMOMO Slovakia, which has long been dedicated to the research, preservation, and critical reflection of modern architectural heritage, and the EUROPEAN TRIENNALE OF MODERNISM (ETOM) – a platform for collaborative creation and an official project of the New European Bauhaus Lab (NEB Lab) focused on trans-European modernism and its progressive legacy.
The conference programme will include keynote lectures, thematic expert sessions, panel discussions, presentations of research and heritage conservation projects, guided tours of modern architecture in Trenčín, and networking activities. Key speakers include architect and architectural historian Beatriz Colomina from Princeton University, architectural historian Henrieta Moravčíková from the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and architect and modern heritage conservation expert Wessel de Jonge from TU Delft.
We look forward to your contributions and to exploring together how modernism can be reused, transformed, and redefined.
