Who is the event for
For children and parents of Ukrainian minorities living in Slovakia who want to tune into the festive atmosphere through story, humour, tradition and music.
About the performance
“Vertep” is the name of the birthplace of Jesus Christ, but also the term for an ancient Ukrainian folk puppet theatre – and at the same time a picturesque mountain village. This is where the characters of the performance live: Grandma FisKaroška, Teacher Fíjsa, Inspector Hodja, Grandpa Šalamún and little Mytrik, who wonders: do humans really come from apes?
The performance is composed of short novellas – scenes and childhood memories (e.g. Easter, Roma people, Voices of Nature, School, Exam, Wedding, Christmas). Healthy Transcarpathian rural pragmatism naturally blends here with a gentle religious-philosophical view of the world.
The production features Transcarpathian folk music as well as music by composers Emir Kusturica and Goran Bregović.
The Clumsy One from Vertep has become the signature performance of the Transcarpathian Puppet Theatre – it caused a great stir already at the InterLyalka Festival in 2004, and its festival journey continues to this day.

Pre deti, rodičov ukrajinských menšín žijúcich na Slovensku, ktorí si chcú naladiť sviatočnú atmosféru cez príbeh, humor, tradíciu a hudbu.
Про виставу
„Вертеп“ – це назва місця народження Ісуса Христа, але водночас і давньої української народної лялькової традиції – а також мальовничого гірського села. Саме в ньому живуть персонажі вистави: баба ФісьКарошка, учитель Фіса, інспектор Ходя, дід Шаламан і малий Митрик, який запитує: чи справді людина походить від мавпи?
Вистава складається з коротких новел – картин і спогадів про дитинство (наприклад: Великдень, Цигани, Голоси природи, Школа, Іспит, Весілля, Різдво). Здоровий закарпатський сільський прагматизм тут природно поєднується з м’яким релігійно-філософським сприйняттям світу.
У виставі звучить закарпатська народна музика, а також музика композиторів Еміра Кустуриці та Горана Бреговича.
«Недотепа з Вертепу» стала візитівкою закарпатського лялькового театру – ще на фестивалі «Інтерлялька» 2004 року вона викликала великий резонанс, і її фестивальна подорож триває й досі.
