🎬 Jánošík (1921) – The first Slovak feature film, made by Slovak emigrants in the USA, returns to the screen with a new musical accompaniment. This will be provided by Slovak instrumentalist and composer Dávid Kollár, nominated for the national film award Slnko v sieti, along with legendary Norwegian jazz trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær. Their music will breathe new, captivating life into this historical story.
Musical Line-up:
- Dávid Kollár – Electronics, Guitars
- Tomáš Mutina – Electronics
- Nils Petter Molvær – Trumpet
Film Screening Starts at 17:00
🎬 The Blessing of the Earth (Markens Grøde, 1921) – A Norwegian film inspired by the novel of the same name by Knut Hamsun, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature. The original story about the settlement of the “empty” northern land is viewed critically today – the indigenous Sami people, who had lived in the area for centuries, were portrayed controversially. This new version of the film gives voice to their perspective. The musical and narrative accompaniment, created at the initiative of Norwegian composer and producer Svein Schultz, shifts the perspective – the narrators become the indigenous people themselves, symbolically reclaiming the story. For this reason, the film was given a new title in the Sámi language: Ednama sjatto, reflecting its reinterpretation from the perspective of the indigenous people.
Musical Line-up:
- Svein Schultz – Bass Guitar, Composition, Production
- Ronja-Katrin Larsen – Vocals
- Lávre Johan Eira – Vocals and Traditional Sámi Joik
- Ole Jørn Myklebust – Trumpet, Composition
- Aleksander Kostopoulos – Drums
- Stein Austrud – Keyboards
- Kristian S. Olstad – Guitar
- Stig Aron Kamonen – Sound Master
This unique audiovisual project was created in collaboration with the Knut Hamsun Center, dedicated to exploring the work and legacy of this significant yet controversial Norwegian writer. The new version of The Blessing of the Earth / Ednama sjatto was premiered only once – during the Hamsun Days 2024 festival in Hamarøy, where it received great acclaim. Thanks to the bilateral initiative Culture Connects – Trebø More Culture, funded by the EEA and Norway Grants, it will now be presented in Trenčín.
