The final day of celebrating 85 years of Hviezda and 2 years of KKC Hviezda will be dedicated to UNESCO’s cultural heritage – specifically, Flamenco performed by the Spanish ensemble María Moreno Ensemble. The event is organized in cooperation with European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 and their project World Music Fusions.
María Moreno’s dance is the result of pure evolution. The movements of her body reflect her undeniable freedom – rooted in respect for the flamenco tradition while enriching it with a contemporary and current language.
Her essence has been brought to world-renowned stages such as Sadler’s Wells in London, La Villette in Paris, Tchaikovsky Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, Russkaya Pesnya in Russia, and the New York City Center.
In 2017 she won the Breakthrough Award at the Jerez Festival with her performance Alas del recuerdo. In 2018 she confirmed her place among the most prominent flamenco names with the show De la Concepción, which earned her the Giraldillo Breakthrough Award at the Flamenco Biennial in Seville.
Since 2022, María has been sharing her research and her effort to bring flamenco into unconventional spaces with the project Verso Libre (Free Verse) – a series of flamenco happenings staged in places such as the kitchens of La Laboral in Gijón, the Patio Herreriano Museum of Contemporary Art in Valladolid (TAC Festival), the Cádiz market (FIT Festival), and the Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art during the Flamenco Biennial in Seville.
