Runway English for Services

About

Runway is the umbrella name for educational activities within the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 project. Runway | English for Services is a conversational language training program designed primarily to prepare people working in services for initial communication with international visitors to Trenčín.

Who is the course for?

The English language course is intended for a maximum of 30 people working in the service sector who wish to improve their English in various topics so that they can respond promptly to the basic requests and questions of foreign tourists.

Applicants may include those working at first points of contact with international visitors, such as hotel reception staff, postal workers, public transport employees, information centre staff, and similar professions.

The course is not intended for complete beginners. The project focuses on people from Trenčín and the Trenčín region. The course will take place in Trenčín.

 

Course Objective

The aim of the course is to prepare participants to handle both basic and more advanced situations they may encounter in their work, including taking reservations, providing information about the city as the European Capital of Culture and its programme, resolving common guest issues and requests, and creating a positive first impression.

The programme places emphasis on developing communication skills, expanding service-specific vocabulary, and managing various communication situations in English.

 

Applicant Requirements

Applicants should have a basic knowledge of English at level A1–A2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The programme is primarily intended for individuals working in services who communicate directly with international visitors to Trenčín.

Participants should be motivated to develop their language skills in order to communicate more effectively with foreign guests.

Applicants must complete the application form thoroughly.

After being accepted into the conversational language course, participants are required to attend all scheduled sessions actively. In the event of more than three unexcused absences, Kreatívny inštitút Trenčín, n.o. reserves the right to remove the participant from the course or replace them with an alternate candidate.

When selecting participants, consideration will be given to the completeness of the application form, the applicant’s motivation to learn, and the practical use of English in their work or in contact with international visitors.

 

What topics will the course cover?

  • Professional behaviour and communication etiquette

  • Improving fluency, expanding vocabulary and phrases related to services and providing information

  • Basic information about Trenčín as the European Capital of Culture 2026

  • Case studies, role plays, and practical exercises

 

How will it work in practice?

Registration is required and will remain open until March, 18 2026 or until the course capacity is filled. The application form opens on 26 February 2026.

Successfully registered and selected applicants will take an entry assessment in the form of an oral interview, based on which they will be divided into groups of up to five participants according to language level.

Current participants of the Runway English for Culture and Tourism course are not eligible to register for this course.

The course will run from April until the end of June 2026, twice a week for 60 minutes, at the premises of KC Aktivity, o.z., Kyjevská 3183, 911 08 Trenčín (Juh).

The course is free of charge; however, participants will need to purchase the required study materials.
