Runway English for Services

About

Runway is the umbrella name for the educational activities within the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 project. Runway | English for Services is a conversational language-learning programme designed primarily to prepare people working in the service sector for initial communication with international visitors to Trenčín.

Who is the course for?

This English language course is intended for a maximum of 30 people working in the service sector who wish to improve their English across a variety of topics so that they can respond confidently and efficiently to the basic requests and questions of foreign tourists.

Applications are welcome from people who work in positions involving direct contact with international visitors, such as hotel reception staff, postal service employees, public transport workers, staff at tourist information centres, and similar professions. The course is not intended for complete beginners.

The project is aimed primarily at people from Trenčín and the Trenčín Region. The course will take place in Trenčín.

The goal of the course is to prepare participants to handle both basic and more advanced situations they may encounter in their work, including taking reservations, providing information about the city as a European Capital of Culture and its programme, resolving common guest issues and requests, and creating a positive first impression. The programme places strong emphasis on developing communication skills, service-related vocabulary, and the ability to manage a variety of communication situations in English.

Applicant Requirements

Applicants should have a basic knowledge of English at A1–A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The programme is primarily intended for people working in services who communicate directly with international visitors to Trenčín.

Participants should be motivated to develop their language skills in order to communicate more effectively with foreign guests.

Applicants must complete the application form thoroughly and accurately.

Once accepted into the conversational language course, participants are required to attend all scheduled classes actively. In the event of more than three unexcused absences, the Creative Institute Trenčín, n.o. reserves the right to remove the participant from the course and replace them with an alternate candidate.

When selecting participants, consideration will be given to the completeness of the application form, the applicant’s motivation to learn, and the practical use of English in their work or in their contact with international visitors.
