Runway English for services

Who is the course for?

The English language course is intended for a maximum of 30 people working in the service sector who want to improve their English across various topics in order to respond promptly to basic requests and questions from international tourists. Applicants should mainly work in first-contact positions with foreign visitors, such as hotel reception staff, post office employees, public transport, information centers, gastronomy establishments, etc. The course is not intended for complete beginners. The project focuses on people from Trenčín and the Trenčín region. The language course will take place in Trenčín.

The aim of the course is to prepare participants to handle both basic and advanced situations they may encounter during their work, including taking reservations, providing information about the city as the European Capital of Culture and its program, solving common guest issues and requests, and creating a positive first impression. The program emphasizes developing communication skills, vocabulary specific to services, and managing various communication scenarios in English.

Requirements for applicants:

• Applicants should have a basic knowledge of English at the A1–A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
• The program is primarily aimed at people working in services who directly communicate with international visitors to Trenčín.
• Participants should be motivated to improve their language skills to communicate more effectively with foreign guests.
• Applicants must carefully complete the application form.
• Once admitted to the conversational course, active participation in all planned classes is required.
• In case of more than three unexcused absences, the organization Kreatívny inštitút Trenčín, n.o. reserves the right to remove the participant from the course or replace them with an alternate.

When selecting participants, the completeness of the application, applicant’s motivation to learn, usefulness of English in their job, and contact with foreign visitors will all be considered.

What specific topics will the course develop in English?

• Professional behavior and communication etiquette
• Improving fluency, expanding vocabulary and phrases in the field of services and providing information
• Basic information about Trenčín as the European Capital of Culture 2026
• Case studies, role-playing, practical exercises

What will it look like in practice?

• You need to register before the course capacity is filled.
• Successfully registered and selected applicants will undergo an oral entrance test, based on which they will be divided into groups of up to five people according to their language level.
• Current participants of the Runway English for Culture and Tourism course are not eligible to register.
• The training will take place from July to September 2025, twice a week, 60 minutes per session (22 sessions per group), at the KC Aktivity premises, Kyjevská 3183, 911 08 Trenčín (Juh), or possibly in other venues in the city center.
• The exact time of the lessons will be confirmed in coordination with the lecturer and depending on your language level.
• The course is free of charge, but study materials must be purchased.
