Research expert for monitoring the strategic projects of Trenčín 2026

Being part of the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) project is an exceptional opportunity. Trenčín is only the second city in Slovakia to receive this title. The main part of the program is waiting for us in 2026, but preparations are already in full swing today, we have even launched some projects. There is more and more work, so we are gradually putting together a team.  

Will you be a new piece that fits into the Trenčín 2026 puzzle? 

We are now looking for a quantitative researcher for monitoring strategic projects to join the team, who will work on the monitoring and evaluation of the Trenčín2026 project (urbanism, placemaking, sustainability, green urban renewal, circularity).  

 

What awaits you in the Trenčín 2026 team 

  • The selected fellow will complement a multidisciplinary research group for the monitoring and evaluation of the European capital of culture that is working in various areas of research expertise including cultural policy, cultural management, economy, education, diversity, equity, inclusion, tourism, and placemaking. 
  • The research fellow will cooperate with other international and Slovak universities, research institutes, cultural organizations, NGOs and stakeholders. 
  • The focus of the position is on quantitative monitoring of strategic projects that have a significant and long-term impact on the city of Trenčín within the framework of Trenčín 2026 project. These mainly concern reconstructions, interventions in public space, and initiatives in the area of sustainability and circular design. 
  • Contribute to data collection and analysis, and reporting findings across areas where quantitative expertise is needed (e.g., tourism, and placemaking). 
  • Design and implement quantitative tools (indicator measurement, questionnaire surveys, other methods of mapping public spaces uses) for strategic and infrastructure projects. 
  • Collect and analysze data on the use, acceptance, and impacts of public spaces, infrastructure changes, and circular solutions. 
  • Monitor the achievement of sustainability goals and ecological principles (e.g. material use, energy efficiency, CO₂ footprint reduction). 
  • Collaborate with cultural actors of the city and region, architects, the project team, the city and communities to exchange data and interpret results. 
  • Prepare outputs for strategic decision-making and communication with the public and stakeholders. 
  • Writing research reports and journal articles, preparing conference papers, and working on monitoring and evaluation reports. 
  • Communicate project updates and results with multiple audiences, including academic, policymakers, and research participants. 

 

We demand from you 

  • PhD in Social Sciences (human geography, sociology, anthropology, educational sciences, and related disciplines), economic sciences, environmental studies, urban planning, architecture or related fields 
  • In-depth knowledge of quantitative research design and statistical methods  
  • Proficiency in using analytical software R and coding languages (Python etc 
  • Experience of translating research methods, design and findings for non-academic audiences. 
  • Several years of experience with independent quantitative research. 
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Slovak/Czech language. 
  • Time flexibility for data collection at cultural and urban events (sometimes in the evening or on weekends, compensation for overtime is a matter of course) 
  • Enthusiasm for research, for working with people and for team spirit 

 

Candidates with education suit the position 

Finished or started (advanced state) of Postgraduate (Doctorate) education

  • 1700 – 2050 € gross per month (depending on the level of qualification, the possibility of an increase in the future) and
