As part of Trenčín’s European Capital of Culture 2026 programme, TrenAir continues to open the city to international artists seeking time, space, and inspiration for artistic creation, research, and exchange.
Following the inspiring collaborations and international connections created through the previous TrenAir open call, Trenčín 2026 is opening a new opportunity for international artists to come to Trenčín and experience the city during this autumn season.
TrenAir invites artists from abroad to spend time in Trenčín, immerse themselves in its atmosphere, develop their work, and become part of a city undergoing an extraordinary cultural transformation. The residency program creates space for meaningful exchange, new collaborations, artistic experimentation, and shared experiences rooted in curiosity, openness, and dialogue.
The residency program supports artistic mobility and offers space for creation, research, and connection with the city and its surroundings. Each residency is linked to a public outcome – workshops, presentations, or exhibition after the residency.
We are currently offering one-month residencies for international professional artists working in the fields of visual arts, architecture, urbanism, place-making, literature, music, film, video. The residencies will take place this fall, in September, October and November 2026.
Four fully equipped studios will be available for creative work.
Residency Focus
The residencies are thematically connected to the four program lines of Trenčín 2026:
- Curiosity as cultural memory, identity, and public space
- Curiosity as ecological responsibility
- Curiosity as equality, solidarity, and care
- Curiosity as an impulse for new stories
Residency Conditions
Each selected resident will receive a stipend of 1,300 EUR, for covering per diems, material expenses, and travel costs. For projects involving higher production costs or long-distance travel, additional support may be discussed individually.
The program is open to artists with permanent residence outside the Slovak Republic. Please note that participation in the residency is limited to residents of European Union member states. Unfortunately, applications from non-EU residents cannot be considered within this open call.
Residents will be accommodated in the TrenAir Residency House at Žabinská 5, situated approximately a 20-minute walk from Trenčín city centre.
