The Garage Festival is opening a call for young people interested in the intersection of journalism and music. We are looking for students, ideally from secondary schools, who would like to become part of a unique festival editorial team and experience working in a real cultural environment.
During the Garage Festival, taking place on 3–4 July 2026, we will create a small editorial team. Guided by experienced editors from HMOTA magazine, the team will document the festival directly on site, preparing interviews, reports, and other journalistic outputs.
Participants will also have the opportunity to learn from Czech music journalist and writer Karel Veselý, who will share his experience in music journalism. He will speak about how to write about music, how to understand the scene within broader contexts, and how to capture stories that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Why join?
The festival editorial team is an opportunity to try out the work of a journalist in the field while also helping document an exceptional moment for emerging bands and new music projects. Many of them are only just beginning their journey — and you can be there when these stories start to unfold.
This experience will give you insight into a real editorial environment. You will try reporting directly from the field, develop your writing and communication skills, and receive feedback from experienced editors.
The final festival magazine will be published on our website, giving you a real publication credit and material you can include in your portfolio.
Who are we looking for?
Approximately 6–8 young people for the following positions:
– Writers and contributors (reports, interviews, backstage articles, and other festival-related texts)
Applicants should have an interest in journalism and at least some basic experience, for example through a school magazine or similar activities.
Preliminary schedule
- 2 July (Thursday): introductory meeting and task distribution
- 3–4 July (Friday–Saturday): work directly at the festival
- 5 July (Sunday): finalising and editing outputs
