A public pavilion has appeared at the Market on Dlhé Hony, designed to encourage neighbourly chats, community gatherings, and the occasional BBQ. Its opening is part of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 programme.

In the spot usually reserved for selling radishes and chives, a new kind of stall will rise this Saturday – the Neighbourhood Table. It’s not a stall with goods, but with possibilities – a chance to talk, relax, meet someone, or simply take a moment of calm amid the bustle of the day. This unique pavilion was built right next to the market on Dlhé Hony and has become yet another way to breathe life into public space through the heart of the community.

The pavilion’s opening and its first use took place on Sunday, May 11, during the Living Neighbourhoods – Neighbourhood BBQ event. The event was mostly about togetherness – a chance to finally talk to the person we pass by every day but never greeted before.

The Neighbourhood Table is a space that grows with us. It was designed by architect Alexander Topilin and brought to life by Matúš Vavrík (Wood Vavrik), Ema Machová, and the Trenčín 2026 team. The project combines craftsmanship, architectural vision, and a passion for community. Literally – the structure started going up in public view from Saturday, May 10.

The Neighbourhood Table embodies both an ecological and social approach. Its construction is made from wooden parts of an old parklet from Palackého Street, and the roof is covered with upcycled banners from the M. A. Bazovský Gallery. This is how Trenčín 2026 shows that recycling doesn’t have to be a quiet gesture – it can be a bold and functional design solution.

“We believe the Neighbourhood Table will become a place where neighbours, friends, passers-by, and organized groups can meet,” says the Trenčín 2026 team. And we believe it too – that this space will become a natural stage for the most natural forms of togetherness: smiles, conversations, shared lunches, and neighbourhood hangouts.

The Neighbourhood Table will remain next to the market until October 2025 – and until then, it will live through the people who fill it. It doesn’t set rules – it just offers space. And that is its power.

Come see it, discover it, and use it. Whether you’re stopping by for a BBQ or just passing through – every use of the Neighbourhood Table makes it what it’s meant to be: a place for all of us.
