Already this Saturday, 10 May, a new public pavilion called Neighbourhood Table will start to grow in Trencin. The opening and the first use of this community space will take place in the Market at Dlhé Hony on Sunday 11 May during the Lively Neighbourhoods – Community Barbecue event, which is part of the activities of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026. Journalists are cordially invited to come and film or photograph the construction of the pavilion.
A place to talk, relax and spend time together
The Neighbourhood Table was created as a new pavilion for all – residents, visitors, passers-by and the casual curious. Its aim is to encourage spontaneous meetings, conversations, relaxation or smaller community activities right in the market space.
The uniqueness of the pavilion also lies in its origin: the structure is made of wooden elements from the former parklet on Palackého Street and the roof is made of upcycled advertising banners of the M. A. Bazovský Gallery. In this way, the pavilion combines an ecological approach with a strong community message – it is a space that will live on according to how the public uses it.
Cooperation of experts and local enthusiasts
The design of the Neighbourhood Table was prepared by Alexander Topilin, Matúš Vavrík (Wood Vavrik) and Ema Machová, who together with the Trenčín 2026 team have transformed the idea into a functional and attractive form. Construction will begin on 10 May 2025 and the intervention itself will last until October 2025.
“We hope that the Neighborhood Table will become a place where neighbors, friends, casual passersby, and organized groups come together. It is another step towards revitalising public space and promoting community life in Trenčín,” says the Trenčín 2026 team
The Lively Neighbourhoods: Community Barbecue event in the Market at Dlhé Hony creates a space to get to know neighbours better, promote togetherness and mutual trust. As a new community element, the Neighbourhood Table not only supports this idea, but also physically materialises it.
Trenčín 2026 is financially supported by the City of Trenčín, the Trenčín Self-Governing Region and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic. The project partner is the European Union.
