An installation by artists Nomeda Urbonas and Gediminas Urbonas that transforms firefighting equipment into a playful work of art. Created in collaboration with the local community of volunteer firefighters, it will be on view from 19 August at Look (the area between the new railway bridge and the Chynorany line).
Artists’ bio:
Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas are Lithuanian artists, educators, and researchers active on the international scene. They are the founders of Urbonas Studio, an interdisciplinary platform focused on connecting art, research, and social issues, particularly in the areas of public space, ecology, and the urban environment. Their work combines artistic practice with research and involves collaboration with experts from various fields.
They have exhibited at major international events, including the Venice Biennale, Documenta, and the biennials in São Paulo and Gwangju, where they have also received several awards. Their practice includes publications and curatorial projects. Gediminas Urbonas is a professor at MIT in the Art, Culture and Technology program, and Nomeda Urbonas is a research affiliate at MIT.
