An installation by an artist duo Nomeda Urbonas and Gediminas Urbonas that transforms firefighting equipment into a playful work of art. Created in collaboration with the local community of volunteer firefighters, it will be on display starting 19 August at Look (the area between the new railway bridge and the Chynorany line).
About the installation
The Disaster Fountain, created by the Lithuanian artist duo Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas, was developed in collaboration with the Opatovce Volunteer Fire Department. Fire hoses, nozzles, and other equipment are transformed here into a dynamic water system that cools the space while inviting visitors to share in the experience.
The installation bridges art, technology, and the theme of climate change. It serves as a reminder that water is not only a natural resource but also a space for encounters, collaboration, and new perspectives on the city. The work is part of the Aqua Vitae project, prepared by curator Lýdia Pribišová for Trenčín – European Capital of Culture 2026.
About the artist duo
Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas are an artist duo from Lithuania who work internationally at the intersection of artistic practice, research, and education. They founded Urbonas Studio, an interdisciplinary platform that brings together artists, researchers, designers, and local communities to create projects focused on public space, ecology, and civic imagination. Their work combines collaborative research with artistic experimentation across disciplines.
Their work has been presented at major international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale, Documenta, and the biennials of São Paulo and Gwangju, where they have also received several awards. Alongside their artistic practice, they have produced publications and curated projects. Gediminas Urbonas is a Professor in the Art, Culture and Technology program at MIT, while Nomeda Urbonas is a Research Affiliate at MIT.

Access for People with Limited Mobility
The Bunky na Looke venue is currently more difficult to access for people with limited mobility. We recommend taking the route from the Municipal Indoor Swimming Pool with a companion, as the path is uneven.
If necessary, it is possible to drive directly to Bunky na Looke. Please let us know about your arrival in advance using the Arrival Assistance – Fountain of Transformation form. We will then contact you to arrange the details of your arrival.
If you are planning to arrive from the direction of the Koliba car park and will not be accompanied by another person, please also register with us in advance using the form so that we can arrange assistance upon your arrival.
