Just Being is a site-specific installation that encourages passers-by to become present – in this place, at this very moment. The state of “just being” is something we often long for, yet for many it can be difficult to achieve. The Alúvium space, however, offers an opportunity to experience it: to pause in silence and take a deep breath, watch the river flow and listen to the rustling of the trees overhead.
The installation loosely develops the idea of the pavilions created by the WOVEN collective as part of the Escapes in Space project. “Just being” is also one of 306 small joys collected by Katarína Poliačiková and published under the title Ministry of Small Joys. Perhaps it is the most essential joy we can give ourselves.
As part of the opening of the Just Being installation on 3 and 4 September 2026 at 17:00, there will be a performative reading exploring the ideas behind the installation and the environment of Alúvium.
