The opening of the intervention Michal Zajac: Post-Sustainability presents the outcome of the project City Sensitivity, which responds to current approaches that consider architecture as the creation of environments not only for human actors. Spaces and objects function as envelopes for diverse biotopes – from plants and microorganisms to insects and small animals – while also creating high-quality public spaces.
Within this approach, a site-specific work is created in response to the specific context of the Fabrika umenia space. The project Post-Sustainability builds on the author’s research and develops it further through experimentation with construction waste materials. Using 3D scanning, sorting, and subsequent recombination of fragments, a new spatial object emerges – a wall that transforms the original debris of the Fabrika umenia into a new form and meaning.
The intervention raises questions of circularity, material memory, and possibilities of reuse in architecture. The event will present both the creation process and the final realization of the work, which is part of a broader programme connecting architecture, ecological thinking, and public space in Trenčín.
