How does returning after years change us? And is leaving always the solution?
The production by Divadlo na peróne explores the motives behind leaving and coming back – whether physically or internally. A Sad Message from a Sad Country is a hyperbole about unclear signals that may lead to fatal consequences, as well as a story about the desire to understand where we belong.
The play is inspired by Camus – his travels across Europe and a newspaper story that grew into an existential tale about the search for hope, meaning, and perhaps even a non-existing god. Its atmosphere recalls Beckett, Burton, or Kafka – yet at its core, it is still life itself, captured in one of its greatest crises.
A poetically dark world where even Godot might find a place to stay. But will he come? Let’s wait. Let’s see. And let’s keep hope.
