The European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 is joining the initiative during the May Volunteering Week, which shows the power of small deeds and their big impact. This year, the project is again taking part in the nationwide Volunteering Week event between 19 and 25 May. In collaboration with the Platform of Volunteer Centres and Organisations, it will offer a series of activities that not only help, but also connect and develop the community.

Small deeds, big impact

Volunteering Week is an annual nationwide event during which individuals can try out different forms of volunteering. The Trenčín 2026 project will support this initiative through production activities, community meetings, collecting feedback or sharing stories of current volunteers. These activities are open to the public and aim to motivate other people to get involved.

“Volunteering Week is a great opportunity to show the importance of getting involved, whatever the scale. Even small acts can have a big impact. We want to thank everyone who has already joined the Trenčín 2026 volunteering programme and invite others to come and try it out,” said Stanislava Minárik Imrišková, coordinator of the volunteering programme

Volunteering that changes lives

Joining the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 volunteering programme offers the opportunity to experience behind the scenes of cultural events, develop skills, meet inspiring people and co-create public space. Volunteers describe feeling part of something bigger, learning new things and finding new friendships and job opportunities.

“Volunteering made me feel like I belonged somewhere,” recalls one of the programme participants. Others appreciate the opportunity to develop in a pressure-free environment. “I was scared to talk to strangers, but I gradually gained confidence while collecting data,” said one volunteer.

Join us – during and after Volunteering Week

The Trenčín 2026 Volunteer Programme is open to anyone who is willing to donate their time, skills and energy to culture and community. As part of Volunteer Week, we are preparing activities that are easy to join – whether it’s community clean-ups, sharing feedback or helping out at cultural events.

Volunteering as part of the city’s cultural story

Volunteering is an integral part of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 project, which is based on cooperation, openness and participation. In addition to personal development, volunteering also strengthens the relationship with the city, promotes community life and connects generations, professions and cultures.
