Organized by Trenčín, the European Capital of Culture, in collaboration with the “Trenčín na korze” (Trenčín on the Promenade) initiative, this one-day event will showcase how public spaces can serve people rather than cars. For the second time, the main thoroughfare, Soblahovská Street, will be transformed into a lively urban promenade filled with music, discussions, neighbourhood gatherings, food, and culture.
This year’s Korzo Soblahovská, taking place on Saturday, May 23, will offer visitors more space, an expanded program, and a record number of participating communities, artists, and organizations.
Following last year’s successful event, Korzo Soblahovská will extend to cover approximately 500 meters of the street. The organizers are responding to the high level of interest from visitors and partners alike and aim to create a more comfortable space for movement, socializing, and relaxation. This year’s program will feature approximately 70 different associations, artists, communities, and experts, who will participate through workshops, discussions, physical activities, concerts, and neighbourhood initiatives.
“We really appreciate that, following last year’s event, individuals and organizations have started reaching out to us, expressing their desire to become part of Korzo. This is a sign that the event has found its natural place in the community and that people see value in it,” says Hana Laššová, project manager for Trenčín 2026.
The food court will also be significantly expanded. Visitors will be able to choose from a selection of 27 establishments—15 food concepts and 12 beverage outlets. Korzo will thus offer an even more diverse mix of local flavours, street food, and places to relax and socialize.
“Korzo has never been just about the market. It’s about the atmosphere, the people, and the fact that, for a moment, it changes the way we experience the city. We’re delighted that this format is growing naturally alongside the community,” adds Zuzana Ščepková from the Trenčín na korze initiative.
A key new feature of this year’s event will be the greater involvement of the market area in Dlhé Hony. The organizers want to explore new ways to utilize this space, which currently serves primarily as a venue for occasional markets but could become a permanent community centre for neighbourhood activities, culture, and intergenerational gatherings in the future.
The all-day program at the market will feature a morning community market, discussions, workshops, culinary activities, and an evening program. The project builds on the long-term activities of Trenčín 2026 in the Dlhé Hony neighbourhood, which aim to foster neighbourly relations and explore new ways of living in public spaces.
“The market hall has the potential to become a place that’s open every day—not just on market days. We want to show that public spaces can naturally bring together different generations, local residents, culture, and community life,” explains Hana Laššová.
Soblahovská Promenade is part of the “Mesto pretvorené” (Transformed City) project, through which Trenčín 2026 has been focusing on public spaces over the long term and exploring new ways to utilize them. The event also builds on the tradition of the city market on the promenade in Trenčín and demonstrates how culture can naturally permeate the city’s daily life.
