Zhenyu WU is a Chinese visual artist based in France. His practice begins with things that are easily overlooked in everyday life. He follows these details as they begin to reveal larger forces: personal histories, social emotions, geography and historical change. Working across painting, performance and installation, he does not simply represent these subjects, but allows them to return as altered images, unexpected relations and situations that feel familiar yet slightly displaced, sometimes almost surreal. His recent work moves between painting, objects, bodies and shared spaces, exploring how memory and experience are transformed as they pass from one form, place or person to another. His work has been presented in France, Luxembourg, Brazil and China, including at the Rothko Museum and the Biennale de la Jeune Création Contemporaine in Mulhouse.
Zhenyu WU will be here with us through the entire month of October.
