Stepping into the oldest pilgrimage site in Slovakia – Skalka near Trenčín – is like peeking into the silence of a hermit. The enchanting atmosphere of this place, part of the European cultural route of Saints Cyril and Methodius, may inspire you to follow it all the way to Velehrad in the Czech Republic or to Nitra – the seat of the Great Moravian tradition.
If you want to become a pilgrim for just a few hours, we recommend an 11 km round trip walk from Trenčín to Skalka. In Trenčín, you can also visit several sacral buildings with a unique atmosphere, such as the Baroque Piarist Church of St. Francis Xavier, or stop by the Christian community Centre for the Family.
