The Živé susedstvá (Lively Neighbourhoods) project invites the residents of Trenčín to a series of spring community events that will bring different parts of the city to life throughout April and May. The aim is to strengthen neighbourly relationships, activate public spaces, and create opportunities for informal gatherings across generations.
The programme of Živé susedstvá will feature four events in different locations across the city – from shared breakfasts under blooming cherry blossoms to a community barbecue.
Breakfast under the cherry blossoms in Sihoť (11 April)
The series will kick off with Živé susedstvá: Breakfast under the cherry blossoms, transforming a street in Sihoť into a welcoming community space. Instead of cars, the street will temporarily become a place for people – for shared dining, relaxation, and neighbourly encounters. Visitors can look forward to a communal breakfast at a shared table, a neighbourhood clothing swap, ping-pong, and a creative cherry blossom painting workshop. The programme will also include a tasting of homemade kombucha accompanied by a short talk.
Picnic on Kasárenská Street (24 April)
The second event, Živé susedstvá: Picnic on Kasárenská, will introduce a new project location. Expect a relaxed neighbourhood gathering in an informal atmosphere with a picnic – ideal for meeting neighbours and spending time outdoors.
Spring in the South (25 April)
The community spirit will fully come alive at Živé susedstvá: Spring in the South, taking place this year at the KC Aktivity venue. The morning will begin with a collective neighbourhood clean-up at several locations, allowing residents to actively contribute to improving their surroundings. The programme will then offer activities for children, a theatre performance and a magician, a reading session with Matej Zámečník, as well as a plant swap. A shared barbecue and grilling will also be part of the event.
Neighbourhood barbecue on Dlhé Hony (3 May)
The series will conclude with the popular event Živé susedstvá: Neighbourhood barbecue at the market hall in Dlhé Hony. Visitors can bring their own food to grill, enjoy a programme for children, yoga for everyone, and performances.

The Živé susedstvá project has long been connecting people and supporting community life in Trenčín. The events are open to everyone – families with children, seniors, individuals, and entire neighbourhoods.
“We want to create a space where people can meet, get to know each other, and experience their city differently – more slowly, more neighbourly, and with a stronger focus on community,” say the organisers.
