Discover an artwork that transforms sound into image. Invisible Monument by Romanian artist Alexandra Pirici invites you to experience the memorial site in Brezina through an interactive object that responds to the human voice and reveals invisible connections between sound, landscape, and memory.
The work was created for the Memorial to the Martyred and the Cemetery of Heroes in Brezina, where we commemorate 69 victims of fascism who were murdered during the Second World War. Rather than creating a new monument, the work expands on the meaning of the existing one – connecting history, landscape, and human memory while inviting visitors to perceive the site in a new way. The artwork will be accessible until the end of November 2026.
The interactive object is inspired by the historical eidophone, one of the first devices capable of making sound visible. Using your own voice, you can observe how sound vibrations are transformed into visual patterns and, for a moment, become part of the artwork.
The unveiling of the artwork also included a poetic procession and a live performance that used voice, singing, and movement to create a temporary architecture around the existing memorial. You can see what it looked like in the video below.
