Modernism Revisited: ETOM Milestone Conference 2026 – odborná konferencia venovaná dedičstvu architektonickej moderny

The Modernism Revisited conference focuses on reflecting on the legacy of modernism in the context of contemporary challenges through three thematic strands: Typology, Topography, and Strategy. Its aim is to explore modernism not only as a historical phenomenon but also as an active source of knowledge for contemporary architecture, urbanism, landscape, and cultural policy.

Participation in the conference is free of charge and open to both professionals and the wider public with an interest in the field. The conference is conceived as an academic scholarly event, and the contributions presented within its framework are regarded as academic outputs. The event is organized with the professional support of DOCOMOMO Slovakia, which is dedicated to the research, preservation, and critical reflection of modern architectural heritage, and the European Triennale of Modernism (ETOM) – a platform for co-creation and an official project of the New European Bauhaus Laboratory (NEB Lab), focusing on trans-European modernism and its progressive legacy.

The conference keynote lecture will be delivered by Beatriz Colomina, architectural historian, theorist, curator, and Professor of Architecture at Princeton University. Her research has significantly shaped the critical understanding of modernism, the relationship between architecture and media, as well as issues of housing, intimacy, politics, and the broader cultural contexts of architectural production. The participation of Beatriz Colomina opens an important scholarly dialogue on modernism as a cultural and social project whose consequences continue to resonate today.

We look forward to your contributions and to exploring together how modernism can be reused, transformed, and redefined for the future.
