Become a creator of public space too!
Are you interested in architecture, design, street art, urbanism, community, or activism? Are you a creative person, a skater, an urbex enthusiast, an activist, an environmental enthusiast, or simply a curious person who thinks about how public space could be improved?
Join a 5-day workshop where you will learn about the principles of placemaking, participation, and environmentally responsible design. Over several days, you will experience the entire process — from the initial idea to the realisation of a tangible intervention in the Halalovka courtyard at the Juh housing estate in Trenčín.
Why take part?
You will meet new people who enjoy thinking about public space.
You will be part of a team that transforms a small part of Trenčín.
You will test your creativity and workshop skills.
You will learn to use basic tools and take part in a collective realisation process.
You will receive a certificate of participation, which will enrich your portfolio, for example for university applications.
What can you expect?
Lectures, site visits, discussions, and collective creation with architects from the PRAKS collective. You will put the knowledge you gain into practice by designing and realising a placemaking work.
Lecturers and organisers
The workshop is led by architects from the PRAKS collective, while the educational activities are led by the Trenčín 2026 team and the Trenčín Institute of Participation.
Inspiration
What can a space created by a community look like? Take a look at photos of similar projects — a lounger from last year’s PLACECAMP, a parklet, a neighbourhood table in Trenčín, and other interventions by the PRAKS collective.
PLACECAMP – Summer School of Placemaking is free of charge.
The registration deadline is 30 June 2026.
PlaceCamp Programme
The detailed programme will be published soon.
Lunch and an afternoon snack will be provided every day.
PRAKS – Architectural Workshop
PRAKS is a series of workshops that introduce architecture through direct experience — building, craft, and working with materials. It focuses on the practical side of creation, deepening one’s relationship with architecture through hands-on realisation, and supporting environmentally responsible thinking.
The workshops combine manual work with thematic lectures. PRAKS works with local, recycled, and environmentally considerate materials on a small scale, in the spirit of “less is more” — reducing the use of new materials, reusing, and recycling are fundamental principles.
Realisations
Indian Sauna in a Barn
Acupuncture in the Courtyard
Hermitage for Art
Nominated for CEZAAR 2025 in the category Phenomena in Architecture
