Opening of the installation and performance by Mahalia H. Richards (UK) and a community picnic

The Unio Tectum and Unio Stibadium pavilions in the Alluvium area will be temporarily complemented from 3 September by interactive works by British artist Mahala Henry-Richards entitled Remote Echoes and Echoes Expanded.

Remote Echoes is a site-specific interactive installation that connects the neighbouring Unio Tectum and Unio Stibadium pavilions through an ongoing dialogue of light and sound. A slow, synchronised pulse of light links the two structures, expressing a shared sense of presence. As visitors approach, the pulse is disrupted, revealing their influence through flashes of light and shifts in rhythm. At the same time, each pavilion “listens” to its surroundings, capturing short audio fragments whenever activity occurs nearby. These recordings form a slowly evolving soundscape – a spatial memory that shifts and transforms over time. (3–27 September 2026 – installation accessible for several hours each day)

Echoes Expanded is a performative event that transforms the subtle dialogue of the Remote Echoes installation into an immersive audiovisual experience. Remote live-coding artists take control of the system in real time, animating both pavilions with algorithmically generated music, light and sound. The quiet shared pulse expands into a vibrant and expressive event that amplifies themes of presence, communication and connection across distance. (3–4 September 2026 – evening programme lasting 3–4 hours)

Community picnics at the Unio Specus and Unio Pendet pavilions in the Alluvium will be regular fortnightly gatherings that bring together architecture, nature and people of different generations. Visitors can look forward to picnics accompanied by creative workshops, movement and relaxation activities, discussions and concerts. The programme is structured around four thematic day formats – material, movement, nature and slow-living days – each offering new experiences throughout the summer. The events are open and free of charge, creating opportunities for families, seniors, young people and professionals alike to explore the Alluvium as a vibrant public space where architecture and community life come together.
