Ballroom dance has long been considered a cultivated form of social interaction. It creates space for eye contact, the touch of hands, closeness, shared steps, and gestures. Beyond its energy and structure, it also reflects a stereotypical view of the male–female pair, with its hierarchical setup embedded in the rules of competition. When the pair separates, the nature of the experience shifts—towards individuality, tension, memory, discipline, training… How many meanings can a dancing body hold? Brass music, in its essence, carries an ambivalent character—on one hand joyful and energetic, on the other nostalgic and piercing.
The dance performance Dychotéka is co-created through ballroom dance and brass music.
