Sanja Iveković lives and works in Zagreb, Croatia. She is a pioneerng feminist and conceptual artist who is active in feminist circles and is a founder and member of several women’s non-governmental organizations in Croatia. Her work consistently questions the role of art in society through a diverse range of media, focusing on the intersections of gender, nation, and class. She has participated in numerous international biennials and exhibitions. Her works are held in the collections of institutions such as MoMA, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Tate Modern, London; Generali Foundation, Vienna; Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto; and Neue Galerie Graz. She received Canadian government scholarships for visiting artists (1979, 1990, 1994), an ArtsLink scholarship (1994), and was awarded the DAAD residency, Berlin (2005–2006). She is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Croatian Association of Artists (2012), the Nada Dimić Award (2017), and the City of Zagreb Award (2022).
