The European Capital of Culture represents a unique initiative that connects cities across the continent through art, creativity, and shared values. The Trenčín 2026 project is proof that even smaller cities can play an important role in the European cultural space. The European dimension of this project lies primarily in strengthening international cooperation, supporting cultural diversity, and building a shared identity based on mutual understanding.
At the same time, the Trenčín 2026 project contributes to increasing Slovakia’s visibility on the European cultural map. Presenting local history, traditions, and contemporary art in an international context enables a deeper understanding of the region’s identity and its place within Europe. Cultural events attract international visitors, thereby supporting tourism and economic development. They also create space for intercultural dialogue.
Last but not least, the European dimension of Trenčín 2026 has a long-term character. The project is not only about a single year, but about lasting changes in cultural infrastructure, cooperation, and access to culture. The partnerships and experiences created through the project will continue beyond 2026.
