Stefanie Bose lives and works in Leipzig as a cultural mediator and translator from Slovak and Czech into German. She regularly organizes and moderates literary talks and other cultural events, including through her volunteer work with the Leipzig–Brno city partnership and the association Slowaken in Sachsen (Slovaks in Saxony). In Slovakia, she is a member of DoSlov, the Slovak Association of Literary Translators. Alongside literary and academic texts, she also translates articles for JÁDU, the multilingual online magazine published by the Goethe-Institut.
After completing a one-year volunteer placement in eastern Slovakia, she studied West Slavic Studies with a focus on literary and cultural studies, Eastern and Southeastern European Studies, and Ethnology at Leipzig University. She also worked for more than ten years as assistant to the Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic for Saxony and Thuringia. Since 2024, she has been working as a freelance translator.
In 2023, she received the Susanna Roth International Translation Prize for her translation from Czech. In 2025, she spent a month at the TROJICA AIR residency in Banská Štiavnica, a programme for international translators of Slovak literature.
Her most recent translations from Slovak include Denkst du noch an Trenčín? (Spomenieš si na Trenčín? / Do You Still Remember Trenčín?, Allee Verlag, 2026) by Trenčín-based author Lukáš Cabala, and the multilingual anthology Junge Lyrik aus der Slowakei. Mladá poézia zo Slovenska (edited by Michal Tallo; translated by S. Bose, M. Lisa, T. Malomvölgyi, and A. Reynolds; danube books Verlag, 2025). Her German translation of Hotel Balkán by Miroslava Kuľková will be published in mid-2026.
