TrenAir

About

Between arrival and departure, creation is born.

TrenAir is an international artist-in-residence program established as part of the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026 project. It brings artists from Slovakia and abroad to Trenčín for several weeks or months to create. They draw inspiration from the city, meet its people, and produce new works – exhibitions, concerts, interventions in public space, and community experiences that often remain in the city.

The program is based on the belief that a change of environment can deepen the creative process, sharpen observation, and open new perspectives. It invites artists and collectives to slow down, look around, and create in connection with the city. Trenčín opens its studios, courtyards, galleries, parks, housing estates, and streets – and together with local guides and communities creates space for works that are rooted in place yet open to the world.

TrenAir offers:

  • residencies of various lengths and formats,

  • support from the local team and production facilities,

  • curatorial collaborations as well as open calls,

  • opportunities for Slovak artists to travel abroad.

We believe that creation arises from exchange – even without the pressure of performance. And that art belongs in a gallery, on a housing estate, and in a park. Even a short stay can leave a lasting trace – in a person, in a city, in memory.
