Tune in to music that is ordinary yet extraordinary, blending flavours of folk rock, blues, country, and even swing.
The band Štefánikove deti performs original songs with Slovak lyrics, aiming for their local audience to truly understand and feel what they want to express.
“We believe that even though the world is globalising and songs are often sung in English, Slovak songs still hold an important place.”
The group was formed in 2020 around the songwriting duo Peter Bálik and Hana Bednaříková. Peter spent years as the bandleader of Živé kvety and, after its disbandment, sought a new creative partner. Hana previously sang with the folk group Voľné združenie jamu. Their work draws inspiration from the singer-songwriter tradition of the 1960s and 70s. From the local and Czech scene, they reference artists such as Dežo Ursiny, Marián Varga, and Zuzana Michnová with Marsyas; internationally, they draw from Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and bands like Pentangle and Fairport Convention.
