The International Visual Arts and Literary Symposium ORA ET ARS – SKALKA aims to promote the ancient pilgrimage site of Skalka near Trenčín through art, to honour the patron of Europe St. Benedict and his followers – the patrons of the Diocese of Nitra, St. Andrew-Zorard and St. Benedict – and to offer the unique setting of Malá and Veľká Skalka, the surrounding landscape and Trenčín itself as a space for the individual creativity of sculptors, painters and writers, who will have the opportunity to meet and get to know one another through their artistic work. Both Slovak and international artists will take part, working in the grounds of Malá and Veľká Skalka, en plein air and in the exhibition spaces of the City of Trenčín on Peace Square and in the surrounding area of their own choosing. Over six days, artists will have the opportunity for mutual creative dialogue, practical exchange of experience in painting, graphic art, sculpture and literature, and the chance to explore the history of Skalka, life and culture in Trenčín and the wider Middle Váh region.
