The lecture is the first in a series of events organised as part of the Black Daisies project, which was created out of the need to raise awareness of this serious illness and to support those who play the most important role in its treatment.
An eating disorder does not affect only the child; over time, it also affects the functioning of and relationships within the entire family. The lecture will focus on the role of parents in treatment and on how they can support their child throughout the recovery process. We will explore practical ways of managing challenging situations around mealtimes, supportive communication, and coping with the intense emotions experienced by both the child and the parents. We will also look at how eating disorders affect family life and what can help gradually restore a sense of safety, cooperation, and balance within the family.
Chuť žiť is a non-profit organisation and specialised centre dedicated to providing comprehensive support to people with eating disorders and those struggling with their relationship with food or their own bodies. It was founded out of personal experience with the illness, with the aim of destigmatising the issue in Slovakia and making professional, multidisciplinary care more accessible.
