Kinobus – (Not Only) a Film Festival: Landscape

This year, Kinobus is living up to its nickname — we might even call it a (not only) local heritage festival. Our theme invites us to explore the Landscape. Primarily the one around us, but also the one within us — how the landscape shapes us, and how, in return, we shape it.

The Kopanice region is a beautiful, yet deeply cultural landscape. How has it changed? How has it been transformed by humans — or how has it transformed us?

It may well be the landscape most marked by human traces and monuments of all kinds: castles, memorials, churches large and small, crosses, hunting stands — perhaps even scarecrows (though we’re not quite sure about that). One thing is certain: humans felt the need to leave signs. To avoid getting lost.

This year, we’ll follow these signs as we explore a generous collection of villages and settlements. We’ve researched more than 25 of them, and together we’ll dive deeper into six — to show you what we’ve found.

As for cinemas — we haven’t seen anything like this in a long time. Two of them still used traditional film projectors just last year, and one as recently as two years ago. The projection booths are uncluttered, clean, and ready to go. One of the cinemas is being lovingly restored by locals. It’s a mix of architectural styles, approaches, and solutions — but all of them are beautiful, and ready to welcome us.

Beyond the films, we’ll also venture into the cultural and wild landscapes. Expect guided and performative walks through places and scenery, wine, working the land, water flow management and irrigation, marking and monumentalizing, perhaps even industrialization and mechanization — all of this in what is likely the 18th edition of Kinobus in the Kopanice region.
