From July 3 to July 13, Trenčín will become part of the largest Central European literary festival. The Month of Author’s Reading (MAČ) is coming to our city for the very first time — for eleven days, during which we will meet authors from all over the world every evening.
About the event
The Month of Author’s Reading festival originated in Brno and is today the largest of its kind in Central Europe. Thanks to the collaboration with the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026, this literary marathon will premiere here as well.
The theme of this year’s edition is exile — the forced stay of authors outside their homeland. Writers from Palestine, Haiti, China, Turkey, Burma, Iran, Bangladesh, and Uzbekistan will visit Trenčín. Every evening, two guests will perform — one international and one local or Czech author. All readings will be moderated and interpreted into Slovak; some evenings will also include musical performances.
The festival will open on July 3 at KKC Hviezda with a discussion on freedom of speech featuring Verona Šikulová and Juraj Buzalka, moderated by Silvester Lavrík. The evening will be accompanied by a musical performance from Slovak singer and songwriter Skyva. Starting July 4, the festival will move to Klub Lúč, which will transform into a literary space for ten days.
