Michiyasu Furutani: Stratum/s
The story portrays the confession of a dancer processing the loss of a friend. At her friend’s funeral, she was offered a piece of bone and ash to swallow. Instead, she took a stone – a symbolic form – and on stage she engages in a silent dialogue with it. Through movements, gestures, and simple acts, she searches for a way to accept death and speak about it without words. It is something we treat with respect, yet it is also part of our everyday lives.
