Noriyuki Sawa – KAGUYA. The Bamboo Princess
This time, puppets will appear on stage. The play is inspired by Japan’s oldest legend, Taketori Monogatari. Princess Kaguya of the Moon was born inside a bamboo stalk on Earth. Several noblemen competed for her hand, yet her fate was to return to the Moon.
Nori Sawa tells this story through puppets, masks, movement, and visual metaphors – poetically and without words. After the performance, he often presents his short “miniatures,” like jewels in the night, along with a discussion with the audience, enriched by photographs from his projects around the world.
